Children making blankets for children and animals in need

What is your idea and how would it impact the community?

I would like to mobilize 50 children to make 250 blankets that will be donated to children and animals in need. I will give kids an opportunity to give back and make a difference - an opportunity that I did not have when I was 10. As long as you can tie your shoes you can make a different. Before the day of the event I would also use 25 other older kids to help me prepare the blankets. Thus an investment of $500 would give 75 kids a community service opportunity, make 250 blankets and 100 of those would be donate to children in emergency situations - total number of kids involved - 175.

Explain how you would use the $500 grant, tools and volunteers to turn your idea into a reality.

I would use the $500 to purchase fleece material at approximately $3.75 to $4.00 a yard from a fleece wholesaler in Califormia. The only tools that I would need are scissors – but those are traditionally supplied by the older kids who I have helping me prepare the blankets. I make simple fleece tie blankets – directions are on my website – www.maddiesblankets.org. I would find a space in a public library (which is free) and then have a blanket making party. Fifty people can make at least 100 blankets in an hour. My blanket making party would last two and a half hours.
