What is your idea and how would it impact the community?

CrossLink International equips ~ 350 global medical mission teams and local free clinics per year with medical supplies and medicines. Each year we have a major fund-raiser called the Band Aid Ball to support our agency's efforts to increase the number of mission teams we equip. The next one is in April 2013. We will begin to collect auction items for the gala's live and silent auction in Oct 2012 . Our idea: Send 50 volunteers (in teams of two or more) into the local community to solicit auction items. They would be equipped with a CrossLink Brochure, Auction Donation Form and lists of suggested items/services to solicit. Also, some would be given computers or phones to enable them to solicit from friends, family or distant businesses. At the end of the planned time, the volunteers would regroup to turn in their completed donation forms. Prizes will be awarded for auction items of highest value, most unique item, etc. Maps will prevent volunteers from going to the same businesses.

Explain how you would use the $500 grant, tools and volunteers to turn your idea into a reality.

The $500 grant would cover the following costs:
1. The printing of 250 color 2-page Auction Brochures and Auction Donation Forms to be sent out with the volunteer teams. The brochures and forms have already been designed.

2. Awards for the Scavenger Hunt winners….

a. There will be up to five prizes for those who bring back the:
– auction item of highest value
– collection of auction items with highest combined value
– most unique item
– the first item collected, valued $25 or more…called in/delivered to Scavenger Hunt Desk
– the auction item of largest physical size

There will be a few smaller prizes awarded to those who bring in:
– the first restaurant certificate for $50 or more
– the first “sports-related” item…sporting goods, tickets, clothing, etc.
– the first jewelry item valued at $50 or more
– and, possibly a few more

There will be two experienced “auction analyzers” on site to judge values, uniqueness of items, etc.

This project requires no tools.
